In the market for a 2010 BMW 650i, heard they have a lot of transmission issues, is this true?
I was looking on the internet for used BMW's 6 series and noticed a couple of sellers said the transmissions had been replaced. Is there something with the BMW's tranmissions? If so which series and year is affective most? Is a manual transmission better than an automatic? What does iDrive means? Would you recommend an extended warranty? What is the likely life span of a automatic transmission in the BMW 6 series? Thanks

BMW IDrive is just computer operated controls for the heat A/C and navigation. Extended warranty, no.

I'm sure those couple of sellers are just the ones having an issue, I haven't heard of any major problems, 2004-06 6 series transmissions had a recall for the parking prawl, but other than that. Any car you buy will have some issues, you just have to be prepared to fix them. Check out that website that tenspeed posted, and start frequenting it.
I just had my transmission replaced on my 2010 650i, because it clunks when downshifting in normal in town driving. Unfortunately, it still does. Thank god, it was under warranty. Been at the local dealer for over 30 days in the last two months. I am over BMW's.
