2009 GMC Yukon XL AC Compressor Clutch won't engage

Asked by MErdmann1007 Jul 03, 2018 at 01:01 PM about the 2009 GMC Yukon XL SLT 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So I have a 2009 GMC Yukon XL and the compressor clutch
won't engage. I checked the relay and it isn't that (swapped
it with the fog light relay and fog lights worked) and my
mechanic and I realize it is an electrical issue. We jumped
the relay with a paperclip and the clutch does turn on and
starts blowing cold air. Only did it for a very few seconds
because we know it's not good to keep that going like that.
I read somewhere to try jumping at the low pressure switch
with a paperclip and when we tried that the clutch will not
turn on. Also I replaced the module inside the cabin and the
ambient air temp sensor and it still won't engage. Anything
related to the ac with fuses I also checked and they seem
fine as well.  The snowflake blinks 3 times then off. I'm out
of ideas can anyone suggest anything?

Some side information, a harness under the truck got
wrapped around the drive shaft and demolished it. Ever
since then I've had a check engine light throwing an evap
code p0455 and I changed the entire evap system and it
still stays on. I don't know if it's related or not but
Information can't hurt.

My thoughts are the compressor coil is bad or you have a damaged wire to the clutch. Would inspect wiring for compressor and apply voltage directly if possible to compressor. Also get a feeler gauge and check the clutch gap. Make sure your pressures are correct with a manifold gauge set. You can download a chart for operating pressures at ambient temperature if in doubt of where you need to be there. Good Luck!
