2009 RX 350 - Timing Belt/Chain
Is the 2009 RX 350 engine and Interference or non interference type engine.
No recommendation in maintenance schedule to replace timing chain. If I drive
till it goes out can there be damage to the engine? Hate spending the money
if it's not completely necessary. Just hit 124K miles.
Please comment/advise. Thanks!
The 2009 RX 350 has a timing chain so no maintenance is required for the timing chain it self. It is NOT a wise move to run a vehicle past a recommended repair until something breaks.
I have no issues with the timing chain, my mechanic (Lexus certified) says I don't need to replace it at all. "Belts have to be replaced, chains do not" There is no recommendation for replacement of the timing chain in my service manual or online. Just looking for confirmation of this.
Since I am looking to buy a Lexus, I went to the dealership to look and also inquire about maintenance and was also told the same thing. They changed to the chains in the 07 RX350s and the advantage to the 09 model I had been considering had a timing chain and there was no scheduled maintenance/mileage to work on the chain (unlike the timing belts which need replacing every 100k miles and are quite expensive) and no need to do any work on the chain or replace it unless you have a problem with it.
