Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hi, 2009  base Vibe 1.8L  with 76,000 miles. Live in snow belt. Code 456 started in July, was intermittent now not clearing.
Took to GM dealer this week, charged $220 for ECM software update per GM TSB, code back within 50 miles. Back to dealer, did smoke test, said smoke around purge valve and canister.
Questions:
a, What is typical repair. Some say do charcoal canister and purge valve, some say do canister and clean valve.
b,  Are these parts located around the around fuel cap (speaking of the cap,I already lightly sanded and lubed  cap and fuel port.
c, Is there another purge valve in engine compartment?
d,  Any warranty coverage for the canister and purge valves?  Also could we be reimbursed with initial charges and software update ( as it did not fix anything)
Much tanks in advance!!!

well for starters on A) Yes jsut replace the purge valve you can find one ranging from 30 - 60$ on the net. as for B) just ask the gm dealership where it is and do it yourself. You can ask for a schematic of its general location as well which should be helpful. and as for C) no probly not it only requires 1. D) the ecm update there is nothing you can do about that they won't be able to remove the update and about the only good it will do is probably give you better gas mileage i could be wrong and you can always ask at the gm dealer.

It was torture but I got my money back. I had to TELL GM their warranty coverage as mandated by federal law. What a pain in the rear, perseverance pays off!

cheers glad you got it resolved hope my info helped. Leave it to the dealer to try and weasle every dime they can out of you. this is why I do my work on my own car myself, or take it to a mechanic i know and trust.
