Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I changed the oil, as usual. The
car has been sluggish so this time
I added sea foam to the oil to help
clean out the motor. 1oz sea foam
to 1qt oil. As directions said. A
day later was on hwy go n 75,
slowed dwn to turn at intersection
and car died. Tryed to restart car
and it started for a second, then
clanked and died. Noise it want do
anything. The check engine light
is flashing and the charge light is
on. It has a new battery. Would the
sea foam have don't more
damage to the motor then good?

How many miles on the engine? If the engine was really high mileage and borderline, then it may have broken down, Seafoam *may* have played a part as it does thin the oil, but then again so could have loading the motor up on the highway at 75MPH. Instructions on the can do say to "drive it a minimum 30 miles, no more than 100" but in my opinion those should be EASY miles, as the additive decreases viscosity, and you are loosening carbon buildup that remains suspended in the oil until you change it. Seafoam isn't a fix-all, you have to be judicious in using it.

When changing oil at the proper intervals additives are not needed. At the rate of 1 ounce Seafoam to 1 quart of oil there would be no damage unless you only put 1 quart of oil in it. Seafoam is one of the best wallet lightening products around. Have you pulled the dipstick and checked the oil level?

Have checked and made sure motor was not locked down and out turns. Have checked the electrical out and it checks out good. There is 161000 miles.
