2008 ford edge lurches while driving at steady speed in SNOW

Asked by Lurching2008 Jan 21, 2020 at 10:20 PM about the 2008 Ford Edge SEL

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Why does my 2008 ford edge temporarily lose power & lurch while I'm driving at
a steady speed? It sounds crazy, but this ONLY happens when it's snowing, not
in rain or any other weather!!! So weird!  It will do this repeatedly sometimes. a
dozen times in a 10 minute period.  Is it a sensor issue?

This might be the so called "traction control" applying the brakes. Better tires might reduce the problem.

If this were the case, would the cruise control still stay on? It happens in city at lower speeds of only 40 kl as well as on highway speeds. On dry streets as well as wet. All it takes is light snow to begin falling, not even any buildup!

Traction control may also cut power when needed. Don't you love these nannies? I suggest you check your tires, if they are old or the wrong type it could contribute to this problem.

I think I have all Season tires right now. How does traction control operate? Does it sense snowflakes and just engage? It doesn't seem to be sensitive to temperature, since it only lurches when it's actually snow falling. Even if it's the road is basically still dry.
