Why won't my Versa start?

Asked by Austin Feb 15, 2020 at 08:14 AM about the 2008 Nissan Versa S Hatchback

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I bought a 2008 Nissan Versa automatic (no CVT) and one
day I was driving down the highway and lost my
transmission completely. Nothing but revs. I tried to find
the gears again and couldnt so I pulled to the side of the
road and turned my car off to try and restart the car and
couldn't. towed back to my house and changed battery and
starter and nothing helped. When the ignition is turned the
starter is spinning and just barely touching the flexplate not
enough to turn it over tho. At this point I'm desperate!
Please help! Thanks

Okay #1. to start with replacing the starter and battery has nothing to do with transmission going out. Now you can't hear the starter making contact with the flywheel did you get the right starter? In the past 2-4 months did you hear anything when starting the car? If you did that was possibly the starter going bad.#2. your driving down the road and all the sudden you have no drive no matter what gear you're in, check the transmission fluid level it should barely touch the botom off the trany dipstick since you can't get the car started to check it the right way, if you do see a little bit of fluid transmission is shot, at the very least the flywheel. Either way transmission is coming out!!!
