Oil pressure issue

Asked by Steve Dec 28, 2017 at 06:58 PM about the 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe LTZ RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2008 Chevy tahoe LTZ that the oil pressure
at start will be about 20 then will go to 40 at about
2000 rpm but then abruptly drop to 0 and lights go
off for a brief second then pressure goes back to
40. This just started when weather started getting
below freezing. Checked oil level it is good and I
still have about 1500 miles before it is due for oil
change. Is this a oil sending unit issue or what?

The oil sender might be bad. I would also check to see it there is a screen at the sender that is plugged up which can cause a false low oil pressure reading.

Get a true oil pressure reading even if you have to buy a aftermarket oil pressure gage . It very well could be you really don't have oil pressure , If that's the case It's an oil pump problem and if not fixed you'll soon be looking at a replacement engine
