Could my new rear shocks be defective

Asked by Richiethec Apr 09, 2021 at 05:36 PM about the 2008 Buick Lucerne CX FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I had rear shocks replaced. Car has auto level
control. Still super stiff and hard bounce as
the old ones which were found locked up.
Could it be that the pump is messed up?

did you hear the compressor run every time you started it up ? that's what my buick did , I removed the new OEM shocks and they were locked up , couldn't release the pressure , $300** of scrap metal . I replaced them with an after market coil over kit ,

There's a height sensor and an exhaust valve in the system. If the back is sitting really high I'd suspect the height sensor if the compressor runs continuously or excessively. The exhaust valve on my Cadillac Fleetwood is part of the pump. Just before the compressor starts you should hear a PSSSST sound. That's the system exhausting a little bit of air and moisture from the system before the compressor starts. It's very possible that the new shocks are defective though. Have the shop recheck the system, assuming they know what they're doing! Hope that helps! Jim
