the battery in my Acura would not hold a charge so i put a new one in. when i try to hook up the negative terminal the starter engages with the key in the off position. iany idea as to why

Either the ignition switch is shorted to the crank position causing the starter motor to run even though it is turned off, the ignition switch will need replaced if this is the case, or the starter solenoid has arched itself internally and welded the starter solenoid points to the solenoid disk, best to replace the starter assembly if that is the case.
