What would you recommend for an exhaust system for a 96 legacy gt sedan?

Asked by Feb 12, 2013 at 04:21 AM about the 2006 Subaru Legacy 2.5 GT spec.B

Question type: Car Customization

It is an automatic and I plan on putting
headers on it in the future just not right
now. Any help would be great. Want
something semi cheap but sounds good
and gives just a little more hp

what 2 1/2 welded pipe, used everywhere. puttin headers on it will not change a thing. go up to 3 or 3 1/2 if you can find a muffler man to do a custom fabrication. truck exhaust.

You're not going to get more HP out of a 96 LGT with a cat-back exhaust. Or headers. Also, 3" or 3.5" is way too big for the car. A 2.5" system will be more than enough until you start talking about aftermarket turbo kits. Hit up YouTube to find sound clips of mufflers you might like.

Hey, I'm Totally happy with the Prius which is mostly electrical and totally silent!

youre wasting your time trying to get more hp out of this car. BUT if you insist on still doing it a 2.5" system will be more than enough for this car. as far as catback systems go...they are a waste of time. you get practically nothing from them. headers and cats are where you pick up hp.

yeah, but they look groovy!

Cat-backs aren't a total waste of time. They offer zero performance increase in this application, but they can make your car sound the way you want. I'd hate to promote ricer status, but your car can still sound cool with the right cat-back even if it's slow lol.

the sound of a racing engine over a big stereo system with a tiny car, kind of like the recording of a big hound dog to keep people away! this is what is needed?
