Subaru oil leak/ rebuild

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hi everyone! I have a 2003 Subaru Outback
with 199k miles with the automatic
transmission. The car has served my father
well and has been passed down to me. I got
a full inspection at a Subaru dealer and
results came back with a oil leak. They told
me it was really bad and I would have to get
my engine rebuilt for 5k. But my engine runs
great and no check engine light. Not to
mention I hardly loose oil. Should I proceed
with the rebuild or sell it to buy another
Subaru? Thanks.

Forgot to mention they could not find were the oil is coming from but it isn’t a head gasket issue

Put oil in it until you end up with big puddles under the car. Carry a quart with you if needed. The car is simply not worth fixing.

BTW. The dealer is a real piece of work. Rather than find the leak they tell you that you need a new engine. The fix might be $5 instead of 5 grand.

Ok...stop and think about this. If you have a really bad oil leak, yet it uses no oil ,and they can't find it....then...they're lying and I'd Sue them. Keep driving the car. Obviously they're trying to take your money bc they think you're an idiot. I'll but the car if you want to sell it. Honestly.
