2002 Chevy Tahoe won’t crank

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Tahoe is 2002 4x4. This happens once or
twice a month where it takes several times
to get out Tahoe to start. Take key out, try
wiggling  shifter, put it in neutral then back
into park. We have changed out ignition
switch, neutral switch, alterater and
something else in the ignition switch area.
Our battery is good. We have put out
several thousands to try to figure it out.
Chevy shop says if they can’t get it to do
the same thing then they can’t diagn it. It
doesn’t throw a code when it happens.
Anyone have an idea we are missing?
I already tried posting this but site said I
haven’t asked any questions so hopefully
only one shows up.

Make sure battery has a full charge and connections all good. Yes, you have to test when problem is ongoing. You need to do the testing, yourself. If your saying the starter motor won't crank the engine, then you check the starter motor and wiring circuits. If it cranks good but won't start, then, have a helper crank it while you visually check for spark at the plugs. If spark everywhere, use a gage and check proper fuel pressure and fuel injector pulse. If it cranks good, try cycling the ignition switch on and off a few times before you crank it, to see if it helps. If it helps, check your fuel system. How long since a tune-up?

I don’t remember our last tune up but my best guess would be at least 3-4 years ago. I asked hubby to stop by autozone and have them test the starter, battery (new last summer) and new alternator, see if any went bad. This is so frustrating been going on now for months and I am scared to get stranded somewhere in our AZ hot heat! WThank you for suggesting those things as we have never done anything other then try to start it! It eventually starts.

I understand. With intermittent issues, you have to test when problem is ongoing or you can't find anything.

Ok we had the battery tested, new alternator and starter all are good. Now what should we be testing? Hubby said the lights came in when the clicking noise was going and had to put it into neutral to get it to start. He said maybe the new neutral switch is bad? I hate to pay another 70.00 to the dealer to test a new switch they put in!
