Instrument cluster

Asked by Terryt30 Feb 20, 2016 at 07:15 AM about the 2003 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer V6 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My ford explorers gauges, interior lights, radio, and
power windows quit working all at the same time
this was just after the cable for the driver side
window broke how do I go about fixing both the
window cable and getting my gauges and
everything else to work again?

A1Auto has an excellent video on replacing the cable system inside the door. I had to do both at separate times. It is possible when the cable snapped some electrical harness essential to the dashboard. This sounds bizarre but for years my driver's rear seat window wouldn't go up or down. I had to disassemble the center console to replace a heater blower door actuator motor, and when I reassembled the console the rear window was now working.

First check the fuse controlling those devices. It's probably blown. Then get into the door and look for the damage wire(s) causing the problem and repair.

Have same problem. Happened when accidentally shorted the system reparing the dome light button. First checked all fuses and reldays found out that the instrument cluster has a module that if faulty it effects power windows radio gauges and interior lights. They are all on the same system
