Rough idle stalling
This has happened a few times but
not always so the shop has been
unable to figure it out. When sitting
in traffic the idle will sometimes
surge and drop to a almost stall.
Other times the car will start and as
soon as I start moving stall. It
always turns over immediately and
after some time will run. It will at
times let me drive a little but stall
while driving again always starting
right up. Any ideas what is wrong?
Is there a hard fault code or memory code in the system? Is the check engine, or service engine soon light lit? Read the code and google it. Is your idle air control valve clean? Filters and maintenance up to date? A good shop can put a scanner tool on and drive to get it to act up. The live datastream can be recorded.
You can tell your vin to your dealer and ask for an oasis or equivalent search. Service code info can help, or tell them it stalls alot but restarts. See if they have a best recommendation, there may be bulletins that are well known to them. Being that year may not be good for any fresh info.
Misfire codes can be expected, the pinpoint tests can help lead to the next step.
If your computer enters a predictive fuel plan, due to sensor or actuator malfunction, it can eventually enter limited operating strategy, then you may have to replace spark plugs to get it running on all cylinders. Then you can resume diagnosis. Motorcraft sells the best plugs and the CAFE sticker for tune-up info will have the number and gap for the plugs. Excuse the terms but they are exact.

I have a 2004 Ford explorer xlt and my car rumble then stop in the middle of driving. I went to 4 mechanic and they all could not find anything and said it was the transmission. The man I brought the car from brought to his mechanic and stated it was the fuel pressure sensor. The 4th person wanted to swindle money from me.
