2005 Ford Explorer 4WD

Asked by Lisa Jan 08, 2019 at 12:15 AM about the 2005 Ford Explorer XLT V6 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My '05 Ford Explorer sometimes switches into 4WD on its own when I go over
a speed bump or hit a pot hole and then when I accelerate, there's a grinding
noise that comes from under the car. If I pull over and turn off the car, then start
the car again, it goes away, but how do I get it to stop doing that when I hit a pot
hole or go over a speed bump?

I was told earlier that the 4×4 auto in the advtrac explorer was designed this way and there's not a way to fix it.. but also it was told to me by a mechanic that just robbed me for 600 dollars and did absolutely nothing to fix my suv! I'm pretty sure he cleaned my front right control arm and put it back on and charged me for it.. also he said he fixed my fuel pressure sensor and my car still feels like it's going to die.. he charged me 255 just for the labor on that! Now my explorer is running worse than it was when I took it and acts like it's going to die while in park!

I took it in to figure out the thumping noise on the left side and they didn't even touch the left side! If anyone is familiar with Shannons twisted steel garage I give it negative 5 stars and they will take complete advantage of you and over price your parts and labor and also refuse you a receipt if you pay with cash! I'm pretty sure they literally just took my money and did nothing..
