engine overheating

Asked by fredwine210 Jul 14, 2017 at 03:19 PM about the 1966 Ford Mustang Convertible RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

when I run the a/c very long the radiator boils over. I know a new aluminum radiator or an extra fan might help but wonder if there is something less expensive I could try?

Make sure your coolant is 50/50 anti-freeze so that the boiling point is high enough. If you don't have a coolant recovery tank I would install one and you could try some Water Wetter in the radiator which may drop the operating temperature.

Thanks to you both. I plan to flush the radiator and put in 50/50 coolant. Never heard of Water Wetter, but will check it out. I already have the recovery tank. I wonder if a pressurized radiator cap would help? Thanks!

If you do not have a pressurized radiator cap the coolant will boil at a much lower temperature. Buy the type that allows water to siphon back into the radiator from the overflow tank.
