Ford Automatic Transmission

Question type: General

When the engine (302 V8) is off, the trans fluid dipstick level is full. When the
engine is running, no fluid on the dipstick. Which indication is correct. What
should I do?

The trans fluid is checked with the engine running and always reads overfull when the engine is off.It should say on the dipstick. I hope this helps. Take care.

Engine running in park or neutral is only way to check transmission fluid. If its not in the hashmarks in this condition then you will need to add fluid. You can add fluid through the trans dipstick. Motorcraft V fluid is recommended. Honda is the only vehicle that I know of that you can check trans fluid with vehicle off.
