I put a cold Air intake on my vehicle and
now the engine light stays on. I
disconnected the battery for a couple
hours it went off for about five minutes and
now it's back on have any ideas
May be the Mas Air Flow sensor, and is the PCV hose hooked up? All original items in the air intake duct must be hooked up. Also just have the computer scanned for codes, this would tell you where to look for the problem.
If the filter is an oiled type it may be over oiled and that can contaminate the mass air flow sensor. Another possibility is the mass air flow sensor is not properly plugged in, is in backwards or is dirty. You can clean it by spraying with mass air flow sensor cleaner, just follow the directions on the can. Also check all the clamp connections. They need to be secure and the piping needs to be fully seated.
Forgot about the oil there Bob, an over oiled air filter definitely set off some sensors, causing the check engine light to come on. Try cleaning the Mass Air Flow sensor like Bob is saying.
