2008 Ford Escape Shaking in Reverse

Asked by DHoov Apr 29, 2017 at 03:15 PM about the 2008 Ford Escape XLT FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2008 Ford Escape XLT, 4 Cylinder, 2WD.  Recently it started
shaking heavily only in reverse and when the engine is warm.  Does not
shake backing out at first start or cold, and does not shake when in Park,
Neutral, or Drive.  Check Engine Light is not on.

After researching I've found to clean the Idle Air Control Valve, but it seems
this car does not have one, or at least I can't locate it.  I've also found to
check the Transmission Shift Solenoid, that the torque converter is locking
up at idle.  This seems to be a major project, and I want to be certain that
this is what it is before starting this project.

Any suggestions?

My first thought was: Engine Mounts. While the hood is open have someone you trust put it in reverse with the emergency (parking) brake on. Now have them heavily depress the brake pedal and at the same time hit the gas fairly hard, a quick shot. If you see the engine jump with a clunk it's your mounts.
