Should I keep or sell it?

Asked by JaguarXGuru Feb 28, 2018 at 11:49 AM about the 2007 Jaguar X-TYPE 3.0L Sedan AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I love my 07 Jaguar X-Type. It was free to
me so paid off. I can't afford a newer car. I
would have to buy $2-$3000 used car. My
Jag needs all new Bushings in the rear x2.
The front bearings keep going out 1-2 year,
but replaced free due to warrantee. Just
cracked F. Pass. Rim on curb in icey
weather. Speed sensors need replaced for
DSC to work, not a necessity. It has 116,000
miles. No body rust, only tiny surface rust
underneath. KBB says its worth $1500 due
to dented front fender. New 50k All-Weather
tires last year. Is it worth putting $1,200-
$1,400 into or will this car just start sucking
money now?

1,200-1,400 to make your Jag drive like new or put yourself back in hock for a new car. All cars need maintenance, especially when they hit that mileage and the service life of major components is at an end. Your choice.

Ten years old... and a Jag. They are notorious for maintenance problems. They are expensive to buy and expensive to repair. Most of the repairs will require Jag factory tools. If I had a crystal ball, I would say your expenses have just began. Since you got the car as a gift, consider the value to be the amount of money you can justify keeping it running. I was once given a Cadillac Northstar. Well, engine was cooked when I got it so that is why it was free. Sold it very cheap just to get rid of it. You might consider the same.
