VTM-4 light and battery light

Asked by Pcataldi Feb 03, 2019 at 11:13 PM about the 2007 Honda Pilot 4 Dr EX-L 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2007 Honda Pilot, the VTM-4 and battery
light came on, the car started bucking and
heard a whining sound. I turned the car off
and let sit  a couple hours and lights went off.
But battery light came in again after driving it
again but no bucking occurred.

GuruD9KJ7. My car just started doing the exact same thing? What was the problem and solution?

I love my pilot (2012 EXL 4WD) but at about 130,000 miles I had multiple lights coming on and off at different times. Mechanics could find no problems except for a code that said I needed a PCU update. Basically software update on the computer. I went Tk dealer and had this done for $150. Took about an hour total. Everything was fine for a few months, then similar things started coming on again. I honestly think it is a computer issue as the car runs totally fine.

Have the same issue on my 2011 Pilot. I've read online that the Battery light often means the Electronic Load Detector is faulty but not sure if that effects VTM-4 light. Could be tho, since a faulty ELD causes voltage spikes. I'll post when I get the ELD replaced, can't seem to find one locally but they are only $10 online.

Just had the same problem on my 2007 Honda Pilot. It was the Alternator $200-$250 part I did it myself, probably a $800-$1000 job if you are paying a shop to fix it.
