I have a 1990 Chevy with 305, the truck will crank, but when i push down on the petal to give it gas it will not take it, just fades out,

Should check the fuel pressure. It should be 9 to 13 lbs. Change out the fuel filter first. May be the fuel regulator or fuel pump could be bad. Also check for vacuum leaks, snug up the intake manifold bolts and check the TBI base gasket. Clean the TBI and Air Idle Control Valve and port, take the AIC out to clean the port.
