What is wrong with my transmission?

we were cruising down the interstate and suddenly we were loosing speed, i heard a noise, then couldnt get out of of first gear. tranny fluid is full. Any thoughts?

Make sure you don't have any disconnected vacuum hoses. If the transmission is vacuum controlled and the vacuum hose for the vacuum modulator is disconnected that will cause a no upshift condition. If the hose is ok the vacuum modulator may be bad. However, if the transmission is electronic, none of this applies and you'll need to have it looked at by a reputable transmission shop. I'm not sure if a 1990 model is electronic or not. But hope that helps! Jim

how much miles? maybe the vaccuum modulator is bad ; try it first . adjust the tv- cable(take off slack) . if not the clutch is slipping and needs a overhaul.

i replaced the modulator to no avail. The speedometer stays on zero going forward and rises in reverse, that seems really weird??
