I have a Poniatc G6 2007. I wanted to know if I removed my catalylic converter would I be able to just run a pipe through instead for it to run properly with out anymore hassle that I have been??
Please help me a dealership is charging
1500 to replace the cataylic converter and
I was told its a chance to just switch
them out. Help me please
You probably could eliminate the cat if you could find someone to do it (illegal) and you would fail your next smog check.
Contact an independent mechanic and they can do it for less. Otherwise, you're driving illegally, see this picture below,
Ask about a universal converter for your Pontiac. They're much cheaper than the direct fit ones. Or check out rockauto.com. Buy the universal converter yourself and have a muffler shop put it on. I did that with my '00 Grand Prix. Before you buy make sure you're getting the right converter for your car. Check the emissions decal under the hood to see if you have California Emissions. If the decal says "this vehicle conforms to California Emissions standards" or "this vehicle is C.A.R.B. compliant" you have California Emissions and a different converter is needed than if the decal says "this vehicle conforms to Federal Emissions standards". Both my '00 Grand Prix and '03 S-10 Pick Up have California Emissions. The Grand Prix was originally delivered to New Jersey and the S-10 was originally delivered to Delaware. So no matter where you live, it's best to check and be sure. HTH. -Jim
