Starting issues

Asked by Ty May 01, 2017 at 11:49 PM about the 1995 Chevrolet Tahoe LS 2-Door 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

ANY MECHANICAL INCLINED FRIENDS OUT THERE? I
have a problem. My 95 Tahoe decided it didn't want to
start one day, all the power came on, it just didn't want to
crank over. Battery is good, starter is good. Checked all
the fuses and there fine. Ended up changing out the
neutral safety switch because my reverse lights weren't
working & reading online said that maybe the problem.
Well the lights are on now but still don't start. I can start
the truck if I hook a starter switch straight to the starter,
turn the key on and hit the button. Anyone have any ideas
what it is?

If the truck can be started by applying voltage to the starter directly while the ignition is turned to ON and it STAYS running, then I'd say your issue is in the ignition switch or wiring somewhere. To clarify, you mean that when you turn the key PAST the ON position to the START position, that absolutely nothing happens? If so, yes, ignition switch is where I'd start diagnosis.

That is correct, it does nothing when you turn it the final way. Acts dead, but everything has power.

Check the battery cable that goes to the starter. The connections need to be free from corrosion and be tight.
