My car is overheating and knocking and dying when I put it in reverse. What is the solution

My car is knocking when I put it in reverse, and then the engine cuts off

First of all over heating and knocking is not good.Check and see if you are leaking fliud,and do not run car until you find heating problem,could cause damage to engine,if it hasnt allready
