Car dying and idling

Asked by Purppgall Jan 08, 2018 at 04:33 AM about the 2001 Saturn S-Series 4 Dr SL1 Sedan

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My car keeps sputtering to start and when it does the
battery and oil light come on. At first it was fine to drive
but then it began to jump gears while I was driving and
stall out when I began to decelerate. If I get stuck at a
light, if I keep my car moving (rolling forward and
backward so I’m not sitting) it will shake badly but not fail.
3 Times now it shakes bad and when I go to hit the gas, it
snail crawls and shifts gears like crazy. Once I pull off and
turn off the car, I immediately restart it and it restarts
beautifully. It has also been flat out dying. The clock is off,
locks won’t move, lights won’t turn on. Give it 10 minutes
or so and it will start back up, sometimes stalling and
sometimes starting just fine. I’ve also noticed something
is definitely burning up but I can’t figure out what exactly
the smell is.

Well I was going to say originally check the power of your battery if you have enough power from your battery and the alternator pushing power to your battery. but now I'm thinking okay you must have burned something out on your transmission module the solenoids or something but it sounds like there's multiple things going on with everything you might want to just go get it diagnosed somewhere is there any history of this bad operation ?
