2002 Jag s type miss firing

ok out of the blue my jag start miss firing.  Im told possible coil pack..  so why couldnt it be the spark plug?  please explaint he coil pack..  It it just one?  or do i need to get 6 like the spark plugs.  And why is it called coil pack?  does something else come with it?  And whats the recommended brand to use?

So the spark plugs connect to the coils and the coils connects to the distributor? The code just came up misfire, which one wasnt noted:(

You have what's called coil over plugs now in this car. One plug and one coil for each cylinder the coils are on top of the plugs. There is no distributor it's all done electronically now
