ignition issues

Asked by GuruB3Z2K Jan 25, 2019 at 01:18 PM about the 1997 Chevrolet Suburban K1500 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

What would cause the 10 amp crank fuse to melt? I keep having to replace the ignition switch. I have replaced the ignition switched four times already.
It does not blow in the fuse box just melts it and after a while the ignition switch fails but after I replace it everything works fine for six months then it will melt the fuse again. But it does not pop it and I'm back to square one.
Is something drawing too much current?

The diagram is part of your starter wiring. My thought was to bypass the fuse block, use jumper wire with inline fuse for crank fuse, just for testing. If it was drawing too much current, why wouldn't it blow the fuse? Maybe some of the others have an idea?
