Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The two rear trunk auxiliary compartment catches are stuck. I think some small sand or dust particles may have jammed them. Can I remove them for service or free them up?

I found the answer the easy way! There are three components to each catch, two plastic and one spring. Two covers need to be removed to get to them, then care taken to slip them out. Curtain rod spray lubricant was used to free them after blowing air then a vacuum. Two little lugs on the slide component so probably best done by a Lexus authorized repairer. That is what I did and the problem is solved. In Australia my new Lexus will cost $100,000 (twice yours in the USA) but authorized repairers here do give outstanding service, far better than Ford and GM. I love this site. I had many US friends in Vietnam during my tour there, great fellows and good mates. Lost touch now but Merry Christmas to you all. I hold your nation in high regard and wish it and you well.

Pronto is correct. Sand/grit/dirt gets in the mechanism and the latch tongue gets stuck inside the housing. Unscrew attach bolt, pull fabric cover off rear of latch, blow out well and spring should push latch out. Take care not to over lubricate so as not to attract more debris

What should be used to lubricate the latch tongues? Should a stronger or new replacement spring be installed?
