2001 Buick Regal Ls has trouble starting.
We have a 2001 Buick Regal Ls. Just bought it, worked fine besides some minor problems with the radio and service engine light being on (everything was working fine though, engine sounded and started well). Just lately its been having a hard time starting. Mostly when its cold it seems. As soon as some sunlight hits it and it starts to warm up it'll start fine. There is also the issue with the headlights turning on when you turn the car on. They stay on till you turn the headlights on then back off. We thought it was the starter, so we replaced that, battery tested fine so I imagine that rules out a bad battery/alternator. We now think it's the ignition switch, but before we go out and drop money on that I'd rather get an opinion on this matter.
What was the issue with service light? Did you have it scanned? The headlight issue is probably the DRL (daytime running lights, it's considered a safety feature). Never throw parts at a problem, it just empty's your wallet
The service engine light has not been scanned yet, that's something that should be taken care of, but at the time it didn't seem to be anything to serious that it needed the immediate attention. So that will have to be done. I've looked into problems with the ignition switched causing similar problems so that led me to believe that was it, but it's as you said. Not a very bright idea to just go out and spend the money to only realize it wasn't the problem.
