Car shuts off after driving about 8 miles. RPM drops to 0.

Asked by Bui2001 Nov 04, 2015 at 06:09 PM about the 2001 Buick Park Avenue Ultra FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

It began to stutter then RPM drops to 0.  Now it does not stutter, just shuts off
with no warning after about 8 miles & RPM still drops to 0.  I turn it completely
off then crank it again.  The service engine light has started to come on when
this happens.

Try getting the trouble code scanned, it'll give you (and us) more information to go on. Is this a high-mileage motor? It may be a timing issue, or missing badly, and the knock sensor is kicking in and shutting off the motor to prevent damage to the motor.
