Volvo S40 2005

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So a hose broke that was connected from
the overflow tank to my engine, we fixed the
hose and replaced all fluids but my car isn't
right, it stalls when idling and has smoke
from my tail pipe. Could this be a head
gasket?

Was the hose blowing out all that happened prior to this issue? No idle issues until now? Also, was the car overheated? If so, it's possible that the head gasket failed. A good way to check is with a combustion gas leak tester that tests for exhaust gases in the cooling system. You can rent these at your local auto store, or Harbor Freight now carries one.
