Seems you've not had one before or prob wouldn't ask the? I've had my 06 S less than a year, spent some on repairs (oil leaks, parking brake cables, tires, O2 sensors - warranty) and won't say maint/repairs are cheap, but have always liked them & wondered til I finally just did it. The handling makes all else I've owned pretty sad by comparison; that's the intangible. When I arrive home it's with a tinge of disappointment the trip's over, but driving behind a school bus is torture.

Thanks, this will be my first Mini as you guessed, i am looking at 05-08 S models, where was the oil leak you had fixed?

Both the oil pan & crank position sensor O ring were causing regular topping up of oil level, so I elected to have these taken care of during a visit for warrantee replacement of an O2 sensor. Almost 1K worth.

I read about timing chain problems on pre 06 models I understand there was a recall to rectify this problem, evidently the timing chain slipper prematurely wore and caused engine damage, was this at a certain mileage or anytime? thanks for your help.

My advice is dont. They are plagued with... the dealer and company dont know what the problemisitis
