06 Jetta 2.5L Starts but immediately dies.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I just purchased a Jetta and before I purchased the car it ran ok. The radio in
the car didn't work so I decided to go looking at fuses. While adding and
replacing fuses I went to go start the car to see if the radio worked and I came
up with a more serious issue. My car started and then died. It did not do this at
all before. Now It does this every single time I go to start the vehicle.

I have an ABS light on, Air bag light (was on before this issue), key immobilizer
comes on but disappears. I can hear the fuel pump kick in every single time I
turn the ignition over to "ON". Like I said the car starts and then it dies. It's
getting gas, air and spark at least temporarily. I was thinking fuel relay at first
and then immobilizer. I may have messed something up while replacing fuses
without unplugging the battery? I'm at a lost.

try taking out the fuse that was connected to the radio see what happens. if it had a air bag light on it likely had a fault with the air bag. find the fault one and try unplugging it best way for that is scan it with a rosstech scanner. The person you bought the car from obviously knew there was an issue and literally scammed you with a broken car. This is why you always take it to a trusted mechanic first and fore most before even considering buying it. I hope you did not spend to much on it. If i were you I would start pulling fuses and puting in the proper ones and work on finding out what is wrong with the car once they are all back in.
