Oil pressure dropping on 2003 Toyota Camery
2003 Toyota camery after. Driving for 20 to
25 miles oil light comes on. Check oil and
it's full using 5w30 syn. Would it hurt to run
a straight 30w or 10w30 it has 170,000
If this engine is not low on oil...and....the engine is not noisy....you may have a bad Oil Pressure Sending Unit....or....the circuit is faulty. We would begin the diagnosis by checking oil pressure with the appropriate OP gauge. Changing the oil to a thicker viscosity would be an interesting experiment. Let us know the result.
I had an old Toyota Celica that started having oil pressure problems any way long story short I had to run 20/50 racing oil in the summer and ran 10/40 in the colder months, and it always helps at minimum 18 psi at idle and that was enough to keep it alive for 2 years of driving it everyday, as it was also, burning oil just had to make sure it was always full. HTH
There is always good old 15-40 diesel oil that can be tried.
If you live in a cold climate area, straight 30 wt. may make it impossible to start.
