Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2001 Chevy express 1500 lt 5.7
.... when braking pulled hard to
left bought new pads and calipers
and hardware for the front. Install
them and bleed them normally.
Installed new wheel cylinder in
the rear, new shoes, new
hardware. Cannot get the brakes
to bleed. Soft pedal with no
resistance. Dont know what to do.
On bleeding the rear, pressed the
break, opened valve, closed valve,
released brakes. After opening
the valve it was a delayed
reaction for a few seconds after
pressing the pedal and opening
the valve that any air or fluid
came out. Like maybe 6 seconds
after opening the valve. Curious
what the problem is.

After replacing all these parts the van still pulls to the left hard and brakes are still spongy.

Had very similar problem with early 2000's Chevy Express 1500 van. Replaced all brake pads/shoes, front calipers and all hoses. Did not fix problem. Eventually isolated problem to ABS unit under left side on frame rail, just behind driver seat. Disconnected lines to front brakes and noticed when someone pressed brake, fluid mainly squirted out only one side. This was causing van to pull hard to one side. Dealer no longer sells units, had to search online/salvage yards and eventually found used one to purchase. I bought the whole unit, hydraulic & electrical, but only replaced the hydraulic portion. Braking was straight afterwards. It is disappointing that a car manufacturer would engineer an ABS that can fail in a manner where the vehicle loses braking on one side.

On that particular vehicle you need to scan tool to plug-in and do an automated ABS bleed. This will pump all air out of the control module which is connected to the ABS solenoid pack ,then one more quickly to each wheel and you’ll have full pedal
