Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I am trying to get my truck going. It was running
fine and then died. It's an 01 4.3 vortec s10 2wd
with 83k on it. Anyway, it cranks over. New plugs,
wires, cap, rotor. Great spark. Great compression,
around 190ish, fuel pressure at Schrader valve was
good I just don't remember the exact number,
sorry. When I try to start it it backfires like crazy
thru throttle body. I know I shouldn't but I sprayed a
little starting fluid in and it just caught fire, didn't
even attempt to start. Tried 3 different icm's and it
is in time. ANY help would be GREATLY
appreciated. Thank you in advance....

Sounds to me , as if it might be a timing chain or a cam or lifter issue First Check the firing order first you might have got it mixed up when you changed spark plug wires

Believe me I thought about the firing order myself, 3 times lol. I checked, double checked and then triple checked the wires, they are all good. As far as the timing chain if that was the issue (and correct me if I'm wrong here) but wouldn't it crank over faster than normal? Or if the chain was broke it wouldn't? It's not out of time according to the timing marks and the rotor pointing to #1 on TDC.
