I am hearing grinding and most of the time I cannot shift into reverse

Asked by Devonludwig Dec 19, 2018 at 04:21 PM about the 1995 Ford F-250 2 Dr XLT 4WD Standard Cab LB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My truck is a 5 speed manual. At first I
thought it was the clutch so I replaced that,
but I put it all back together and it still grinds.
It only grinds when I stop accelerating. I am
thinking that could be a broken chain in the
transfer case. But I still don’t know why my
reverse only periodically engages. Any
advise?

did you replace the throw out bearing and slave cylinder ? The tranny should have gone to a shop for inspection before you put it back in . There may also be a pilot bearing in the fly wheel I guess they can whine if they're worn , and replace the rear oil seal on the motor

I replaced the pilot bearing and the fly wheel. I didn’t think to take it to a shop. I should have. but I am just wondering if it could be anything else besides the transmission. Because it is a tank. And dropping it once was hard enough haha
