someone told me NOT to put new transmission flud in but to filter the old
the fluid is black.its a 04 impala with hard shift/he says since its got 140,000 miles that if i put new fluid in it it may shut it down.ive got the new `filter and was going to change it myself/ever heard of this?
How will you "filter" it? Let us know-
No never heard of it and would not recommend doing it even if you could especially if the fluid is black. Would recommend using Lucas Transmission fluid with conditioners
used a paint strainer to filter the old fluid/its lost its color but may drive a little better.not that much/taking it to the shop tommorow/check silanoid pressure control i believe/at least someone had suggested i have it checked before i have it overhauled/not slipping REALLY bad/YET anyway.just hard shift@jerk when i first pull out
Those transmissions are already known to crap out at about 160k or sooner and that one hasn't had a fluid change since day one from the sounds of it. Changing it is a risk, could improve or it could kill it.
