someone told me NOT to put new transmission flud in but to filter the old

the fluid is black.its a 04 impala with hard shift/he says since its got 140,000 miles that if i put new fluid in it it may shut it down.ive got the new `filter and was going to change it myself/ever heard of this?

No never heard of it and would not recommend doing it even if you could especially if the fluid is black. Would recommend using Lucas Transmission fluid with conditioners

used a paint strainer to filter the old fluid/its lost its color but may drive a little better.not that much/taking it to the shop tommorow/check silanoid pressure control i believe/at least someone had suggested i have it checked before i have it overhauled/not slipping REALLY bad/YET anyway.just hard shift@jerk when i first pull out

Those transmissions are already known to crap out at about 160k or sooner and that one hasn't had a fluid change since day one from the sounds of it. Changing it is a risk, could improve or it could kill it.

just a note. I have a 2004 impala that started too shift some what E and jerky at about 130 000 changed fluid and filter and added 1 quart Lucus transmission fluid. 2004 impala now has 370 000 miles and drives great. changed fluid and filter approx. 60 000 each time after.
