2005 Chevy Colorado is losing oil at a rapid pace

Asked by Charles Nov 12, 2020 at 09:21 PM about the 2005 Chevrolet Colorado Z71 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hello, my truck has been burning a lot of oil, and I need advice

The 2005 Chevy Colorado [14XXXX Miles] has recently had the 4th cylinder
repaired [Exhaust valve had broken apart, and had 0 psi], and had oil in the
intake. After having the 2 exhaust valves replaced, the intake valves ground,
the head gasket replaced with all new bolts, and an oil change, it was driven
for 200 miles. After checking the oil, it was low by about 3 quarts. The bottom
of the engine is dry, there has been no oil pooling under the truck, and it has
been burning oil. What should be my next step?

Time for a new engine I think. The cylinder was probably scored and then there is the no oil pressure issue. What a waste of money.

Check spark plugs in all cylinders, you're looking for more oil fowled plugs. Could be bad piston rings allowing oil to get past and out the exhaust

Update to the question: The oil appears to come in through the intake, and it had a single code reading of engine idle below specification. After cleaning the throttle body, that appeared gummed up with gas, the idle was fixed. Could that be causing the oil burning?

Add 5oz engine restore additive to begin.do this in steps until oil use stops
