Sounds like the engine will not IDLE. Will it run if you keep pressing on the gas pedal?

It will as long as I don't stop at a light or stop sign but my car usually does good

My guess is you have a dirty Throttle Body and IAC(Idle Air Control Valve. Google your make model year and " Clean Throttle Body and IAC"
