Check Engine Light

Asked by Mar 28, 2016 at 11:31 PM about the 1997 Toyota Camry CE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I do not have computer or scanner for the car.  I don't want to go to a mechanic.
I want to know how to disable the check engine light without a computer and without a scanner.

The ONLY thing you can do is remove the bulb from the gauge assembly. Be warned though, this does NOT prevent the scanner from knowing there are codes.

Why not just replace or fix code coming up? That will clear code.

Right, find out what the codes are, most parts stores can do this and it's free, fix the problems.

If your wanting to do this to pass some inspection that won't work as they plug into the cars OBD port and everything is listed right there, besides if the light won't turn on when the key is first turned on it is an instant fail.
