How does a driveshaft on a 1994 Toyota camry LE wagon come completely unattached from transmission?.. all bolts gone

Asked by Jul 10, 2016 at 04:05 PM about the 1994 Toyota Camry LE V6 Wagon

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 94 camry stopped moving one day. while driving it home, a loud thud. I look under and the drive shaft or axle that goes from the transmission to the driver side front wheel is completely off.
Sabotage?? ....All bolts completely missing!
I love on a windy road if that means anything. actually most the roads out here have heavy curves. why would all 6 bolts be gone.

Have you actually confirmed that they are all gone or have they been sheared off flush with the flange? I have seen this happen on some of my old dune running rigs, I had modified the engine a little bit more than stock and forgot to put in better bolts in the axle flanges and of course sheared the whole lot of them off.

What is the repair history on this vehicle. Had the oil changes recently?
