The fuel pump is located inside the fuel tank and is replaced thru the top of the tank. Pull back the carpet in the rear cargo area. There you will see a cover held down with 4 screws. Remove the cover to expose the fuel pump/sender unit assembly. You know that's it if it has a white electrical connector and 3 rubber hoses attached to it.

The fuel pump sits in the gas tank. Most Subaru vehicles have an access panel to get to the top of the tank for easy removal. The fuel pump is part of the sending unit, but it looks as thought the pump itself can be purchased separately and changed out on the assembly.

Try cleaning its contacts and positioning the swing-arm carefully.
