2004 forester timing belt gear locked up when I was driving. It stopped running, did this ruin the motor?

That is an interference engine so it is possible that you bent some valves if it jumped time or the timing belt broke.

Well put above. It could be the water or oil pump or tensioner. Hopefully it didn't shred or jump teeth.
