You don't give us much to go on, but I agree with Astre, however I would go even further and say check the transmission. If something is failing inside they sometimes make whining sounds even when the fluid level is up. A diagnosis at a transmission shop might save you from being left stranded at the side of the road.

Low power steering fluid can also cause a whining noise. The power steering reservoir is kind of hard to get to. It's tucked behind the alternator on the passenger side of the engine if I remember correctly.
