here the conversation am talking about.... GM Tech (Cam) : Hello, I'm Cam. Please include all the details about your issue so I can accurately advise you. I cannot see your vehicle so please be detailed. JACUSTOMER-upcz3b41- : It started about a two weeks ago. Go to try to start my car and when I turn the key all the way, everything shuts down for about 15 minutes. The key is locked in place all electric item are down. But in 15 minutes everything thing starts working again and I can start the car. I say to myself weird and go on with my day. It happened a few more time but I can always start my car after 15 minutes. And after work it happens again and it has not start since. After some googling, I came across a few site talking about GM VATS, PassKey and PassLock systems and how to bypass them. My issues seems to look like a passkey issue or Theft detection problem. And I made this bypass from items bought at radioshack. Now I just need to remove to the Theft Deterrent module and wire in my bypass and hopefully my car will work again GM Tech (Cam) : The theft module is around the igntion cylinder. Do you see the wires to it? JACUSTOMER-upcz3b41- : is right below were the key goes JACUSTOMER-upcz3b41- : I just read in the Grand AM it behind the radio GM Tech (Cam) : The grand am is different JACUSTOMER-upcz3b41- : cool GM Tech (Cam) : you listed a grand prix and the key is in the column, GM Tech (Cam) : And the igntion cylinder goes through the module, do you see that? GM Tech (Cam) : wait, I am thinking the 1998, yours is in the BODY CONTROL MODULE JACUSTOMER-upcz3b41- : heres a pic i took this morning JACUSTOMER-upcz3b41- : http://www.flickr.com/photos/97818854@N00/6280454642/ GM Tech (Cam) : So first can you get to the BODY CONTROL MODULE, it is under the dash. GM Tech (Cam) : Ok yes, different place, can you find the Body Control Module? JACUSTOMER-upcz3b41- : im not sure JACUSTOMER-upcz3b41- : what does it look like GM Tech (Cam) : big box far left under the dash above the parking brake pedal. GM Tech (Cam) : 2 connectors, one is a blue 32 pin connector and one is an 8 pin white. JACUSTOMER-upcz3b41- : I'll be back I have to go to the garage GM Tech (Cam) : no problem, I am around. GM Tech (Cam) : When you find it we need 3 wires, black in the small connector for the black of the module, splice them, GM Tech (Cam) : pink in the next one to splice to the red wire. GM Tech (Cam) : And the dark blue at the corner of the same one. JACUSTOMER-upcz3b41- : ok i think i found it JACUSTOMER-upcz3b41- : http://www.flickr.com/photos/97818854@N00/6280954104/ GM Tech (Cam) : yes that is it, can you see the wires in there I mentioned? JACUSTOMER-upcz3b41- : is that it GM Tech (Cam) : yes. JACUSTOMER-upcz3b41- : ? GM Tech (Cam) : that is the Body Control Module, the black one with 2 connectors. JACUSTOMER-upcz3b41- : how it going GM Tech (Cam) : It goes, did you find the wires? JACUSTOMER-upcz3b41- : is the Body Control Module the same as Theft Deterrent module GM Tech (Cam) : In your car the theft module is in the Body Control Module. JACUSTOMER-upcz3b41- : ok JACUSTOMER-upcz3b41- : so the 8 pin is what i want to look into for the TDM GM Tech (Cam) : can I Ask what happened and what diagnosis was done to confirm it was the theft. GM Tech (Cam) : No, both connectors. JACUSTOMER-upcz3b41- : for the last 2 weeks I would turn the key and all electric would go off and the key was lock into place and after 15 minutes the electric would turn on all the dash light and I could turn the key and the car would start JACUSTOMER-upcz3b41- : this kept happening GM Tech (Cam) : OK that sounds like theft. GM Tech (Cam) : Did you see the connector I mentioned? GM Tech (Cam) : sorry the 2 wires, pink, black and dark blue. JACUSTOMER-upcz3b41- : would that be on the 8 pin JACUSTOMER-upcz3b41- : or 32 pin GM Tech (Cam) : black on the 8 pin, pink and dark blue on the 32 pin. JACUSTOMER-upcz3b41- : ok let me go check i'll be back GM Tech (Cam) : ok JACUSTOMER-upcz3b41- : http://www.flickr.com/photos/97818854@N00/6281119764/ JACUSTOMER-upcz3b41- : ok JACUSTOMER-upcz3b41- : i found the black wire in 8 bin and the pink in the 32 bin JACUSTOMER-upcz3b41- : but the dark blue is a issue GM Tech (Cam) : and the blue is in the corner of the connector. JACUSTOMER-upcz3b41- : the far lef tin this image JACUSTOMER-upcz3b41- : mis type left GM Tech (Cam) : yes, that dark blue is the signal wire that you need to splice into. JACUSTOMER-upcz3b41- : is the yellow the Starter enable control GM Tech (Cam) : You do not need to worry about the yellow on this one. JACUSTOMER-upcz3b41- : ok so just need to discount the module and splice into those wires wish me luck GM Tech (Cam) : Disconnect, splice the pink and blakc, cut the blue and connect the module to the side going to the vehicle and plug it all back in. JACUSTOMER-upcz3b41- : ok so i reconnect the old module after I splice and cut wire as you indicated above GM Tech (Cam) : Ok, what happened? GM Tech (Cam) : And did oyu build this module or buy the prebuilt one? JACUSTOMER-upcz3b41- : I built it GM Tech (Cam) : OK then does it crank now? GM Tech (Cam) : did it crank before? JACUSTOMER-upcz3b41- : i haven't installed it yet, it use to crank a week ago GM Tech (Cam) : Ok, if the engine does not crank then it is not a security issue on this one, it is an igntion switch or starter issue. GM Tech (Cam) : this one only disables the injectors.
