engine surges after slowing down&lite comes on,trying to get up to speed

riding along at 50-60 miles an hour,must slow doen due to traffic as traffic moves I try to get back up to speed engine serges,service engine lite comes on and you gat back up to speed,you get the same sergeing after slowing down againm
